Welcome to the Upload FAQ.
In a perfect world, we would just have a simple webpage where you, the honest, hard-working PG pilot would simply enter a couple of fields of information into a form and upload your rip-roaring photo.
Unfortunately, we have an internet full of spammers, porn-peddlers, school-kid hackers and automated robotic software capable of filling in forms and uploading all sorts of junk every µ-sec. Think of these as the big, bad wolves
Consequently, we've had to protect our upload and contact pages using a mind-boggling array of stupid tricks to try to limit our exposure in this wicked world. Think of this as our chastity belt
You, the happy PG pilot, will:
  • need to use a modern browser. If you don't, you may not be able to upload correctly
  • need to have javascript enabled in your browser to upload smoothly, most browser have this enabled by default
  • need the Adobe FlashPlayer plug-in installed (ver 9+) in your browser. It can be installed here adobe.com/flash
  • probably still be able to upload without javascript or the Flash plug-in, but you may encounter problems
  • need to read the scrambled writing of a Captcha
Think of these as the keys to our chastity belt
We're truly sorry about having to do this but, quite frankly, we have little choice. Our server is out there in the open, forcing us to write our code in a specific way and hoping it's relatively secure. Think of this as standing in the forest with your trousers down, hoping your ass is safe
To summarise, you don't need anything other than a simple browser to enjoy the daily rotating images that you see on pPIC. If, however, you want to add to the fun, brighten up the day of PG pilots worldwide, and upload your own images, you're going to have to use modern technologies.
.... or you could think of it this way .... We've given you the keys, and our trousers are down, so let's get it on and hope the big-bad wolves don't come along and @#$% us up
